Asia has experienced many transformations over the last decade. One that all financial professionals experience on a daily basis--but few pause to reflect or comment on--is the growth in market capitalization across Asia.  Paul Bernard will present an analysis of the growth in market capitalization in Asia and its implications for the region and Singapore.

Paul D. Bernard - CFA

Paul Bernard retired from Goldman Sachs in December 2011. He worked at Goldman Sachs for 19 years, all in the Investment Research Division. Paul was named a Managing Director in 2001 and a Partner in 2004. Paul started in Goldman’s New York office and relocated to Hong Kong in 1995 to establish coverage of the Asian energy and chemicals sectors. Paul was named the top analyst in both sectors by a variety of surveys, including Institutional Investor, Greenwich and Asia Money. In this role Paul led investor education efforts for a number of equity offerings, including PetroChina, Inpex, PTT Exploration & Production and Gulf Indonesia Resources. In addition to his stock coverage responsibilities, in 2001 Paul was named co-Director of Asia Pacific Investment Research. Over 11 years in this role, Paul built Goldman’s Investment Research team into one of the leading teams in Asia, covering over 1,300 stocks across the region with analysts located in 12 offices. From 2003 to 2011, Paul was also a member of Goldman Sachs’ Asia Management Committee, the group that oversees Goldman Sachs' businesses in Asia. In 2008 he was named the firm’s first Chairman of Diversity for Asia. Paul holds an AB (Honors) in Economics from Holy Cross College and an MBA from Stanford University. He is a CFA charterholder and is a member of the Board of Directors of CFA Singapore. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Hong Kong Academy
